Maharsi Pamungkas is well renowned as an authentic spiritual teacher (guru sejati) outwardly situated within the Javanese spiritual tradition (kejawen). The Javanese tradition was shaped by contact with all the world’s major religions and yet has retained a unique character of its own. The system of spiritual knowledge he teaches, however, is not traditional even in this sense. Its aim is to bring about a direct personal encounter with the universal truth of existence and to achieve the inner purpose of life through meditative practice. As such, his teachings have a scientific and universal character and are independent of all religious, cultural or nationalist identities.

Maharsi Pamungkas was born in 1936 in the village of Ponjong, Gunung Kidul, to the east of Yogyakarta. He showed signs of an outstanding intellect and exceptional spiritual capabilities from a very early age. While he has long had numerous students in Java, he has decided that the time has come to reach out to the wider world by publishing his books. He began writing these books in 1946 but they have been kept hidden from all but his closest associates until now. Two books are made available here in their original hand-written format, composed in a mixture of Indonesian and Javanese language and illustrated with numerous drawings. The Javanese passages have also been translated into Indonesian. Please take a look at the sample pages before downloading. An annotated English version of part of Book One, as well as a video interview of Maharsi Pamungkas with English subtitles, are available.
